Ilive Wireless Earbuds Review 2021: Is It For You?

Ilive Wireless Earbuds Review 2021 Is It For You

Ilive wireless earbuds are an excellent option for people who want to listen to music on the go. These earbuds connect via Bluetooth and do not require any wires connecting them or with your phone, making them accessible and convenient! This is our iLive wireless earbuds review.

This blog post will cover what you need to know before buying ilive wireless earbuds, as well as some of the features they offer. Let’s get started!

What Is It?

The iLive Truly Wired-Free earbuds do precisely what they claim to be. The earbuds are made up of two separate pieces that can be worn in different ways. They communicate using Bluetooth 5.0, which allows them to connect with any device streaming from them.

What’s Inside The Box?

The contents of the box are listed from left to right, starting at the top left corner.

  • Two pairs of in-ear mountings. For different sizes of ears, one size fits better than the other.
  • There are two additional pairs of ear tips. The buds can have three sizes of ear tips with these two pairs.
  • The charging case also contains a pair of black ear hooks, which look similar to the ones below.
  • Earbuds with yellow ear hooks and medium ear tips on the right and left earbuds.
  • A Micro USB cable
  • User manual
  • Card asking you to do a product review.

It was straightforward to set up the iLive truly wire-free earbuds. First, I swapped the medium ear tip out for the smallest. These earbuds are my most comfortable. Ear pain is something I experience within an hour of wearing earbuds.

However, I had never experienced it with these earbuds, even when I wore them for more than two hours. I had planned to replace the over-ear hooks with in-ear hooks, but the soft, flexible earbuds over my ear made it challenging to forget they were there.

They were less likely to fall out during workouts or yard work, so I kept them on.

Here’s a photo of the interior of the case. The on/off power switch is visible. This feature is unique and something I have not seen in any other earbud charging cases.

iLive truly wire free earbuds Installation

The majority of cases turn on and charge automatically once you insert the earbuds. The case you have will not work like that. The power must be switched on.

This could prevent battery life degradation. iLive truly wire-free earbuds should only be charged when their power is sufficient to allow for a recharge. Even if the buds were worn for 30 minutes, I don’t like them constantly charging.

Next is the case with the power ON and the buds charged. The blue light that blinks when the buds are charging can be seen. As you can see, the buds glow red when they are charging.

The earbud’s light turns blue when the charging process is completed. When the charging is completed, the power light will turn solid blue.

Plug the USB charging cable into your computer and one into the adapter for wall charging or the USB port on your laptop to charge the case.

After removing the ear-buds from the case, turn each one on individually by clicking on the function button at the center of each earbud. The function buttons must be pressed and held until each earbud blinks blue or red.

Each earbud will then connect to the other. The right earbud will flash blue, while the left will flash red and blue. This was only necessary the first time I used my earbuds. After that, they connected automatically to one another.

Next, I had to pair it up with my phone. The iLive truly wire-free earbuds are now ready to pair with the red and blue indicator. These earbuds were the name I found on my smartphone. Although it was not intuitive, the manual did allow me to know the name before I needed it.

Pros And Cons

  • It’s affordable
  • It can be used as both an earphone and portable Bluetooth speaker

  • The sound quality is poor
  • When outside, the connection between earphones is cut easily
  • Battery life is average

The Ilive wire-free earbuds earpieces are as plain as true wireless headphones can get. The earpieces are simple black plastic knobs with a single indicator LED and no branding.

Each earpiece has a circular recess at the back that acts as a touch-sensitive control surface. It can play/pause, skip forward or backward with a single tap on the left earpiece and a double-tap to its right earpiece.

You can also activate Siri (other voice assistants don’t work) with a triple tap. The earphones do not have volume controls. The entire back panel of each earpiece has touch control, so it is straightforward to play/pause music or skip tracks accidentally.

There are three sizes of silicone eartips available. This, combined with the round knob shape and earpieces, provides a secure fit that doesn’t require any earfins. These earphones are sweatproof, but iLive does not list an IP rating.

The Ilive wire-free earbuds’ charging case is what sets it apart from other Bluetooth headphones. The case looks like a regular, rectangular-shaped plastic bag with a flip-top cover covered in faux leather and black cloth. The big surprise is the built-in Bluetooth driver.

This allows the case to function as a standalone Bluetooth speaker if the earphones have been plugged into it. The case has a single driver that allows you to use the Bluetooth connection to fill small spaces.

Insert your earphones in the charging recesses and close the top. The speaker is disabled again when you open the case. Sound is sent back to the earphones by opening the top.

According to iLive, the earphones will last up to six hours with half volume and the speaker case up to five hours with half volume.

Although it is impossible to estimate how much power the charging box supplies to the earpieces’, it appears to be one charge. These numbers are pretty short when compared to other true wireless headphones that we have tested.

Although the iLive truly wire-free earbuds are great for indoor use, I experienced significant wireless connectivity issues outside. I would experience a loss of connection between the earpieces, resulting in audio dropping from my left ear and me only having the correct channel.

The connection could be restored by holding the earphones together with my hands. However, once I let go of them, they lost it all again.

The earphones’ sound quality is not excellent. The test track, The Knife’s Silent Shout, has a shallow bass drum. It produces a slight thump but no sense of power, even at maximum volume. There is no distortion.

Yes, Roundabout sounds balanced but is limited. Although the opening acoustic guitar picks have some resonance and string texture, they lack any bass force or treble finesse.

The track kicks in fully, and every element of the busy mix is given equal attention. You can hear the bassline, guitar strums, and vocals against the background. The mix is lacking in any high-end or low-end presence. It sounds a little busy and flat, with every element focusing on the mids to highs.

The focus on the high-mids allows the guitar riffs and vocals from The Crystal Method’s Born Too Slow to stand out as they should.

The track lacks the industrial, ominous power it deserves because it doesn’t have the low-frequency response to support its driving backbeat.

Similar to the speaker case, the audio quality is also inferior. The speaker case can be loud enough to fill small rooms, but it has minimal bass. This results in a tinny, crunchy sound. Silent Shout, despite its maximum volume, doesn’t produce any thump and can distort easily.

The Roundabout opening notes sound a little tinny and crackly. Born Too Slow sounds the best due to the harshness of the speaker and the guitar riffs. However, the backbeat is too loud with very little bass response.

The case helped me listen to podcasts in the background of other activities but was not suitable for music listening.

Master of None

Although the iLive wireless earphones may be affordable and offer an exciting gimmick, they perform well even at $70. The earphones are not wirelessly compatible and have a limited dynamic range.

Also, the speaker sounds tinny. You can find better wire-free earphones at this price point, such as the $50 EarFun free and the $80 Anker Soundcore Liberty Air.

Both offer superior connectivity and great sound quality. If you want to save money on both wire-free headphones and Bluetooth speakers, pair the $30 JLab Go Air with a $40 JBL Go 2 Speaker.

The Competition

People love earbuds, but not everyone can afford them. As such, recent years have brought about the rise of cheaper alternatives in the wireless earbuds space, some of which have to work to stand out amongst the big-name competition.

There are many other buds that you can choose from in this price range without worrying about performance. JLab’s Air Executives are my recommendation at the same price point. They were released last year.

They were available back in New York City when cars and people still walked the streets. I didn’t experience interference at the same level as iLive’s model.

You might also consider older models of flagships from big brands. Although the original Galaxy Buds from Samsung may not be as great as their successors at this time, they are still available on Amazon for around $100.

The Competition

While it isn’t a significant price increase over iLive’s earbuds (but it’s almost certainly a substantial jump in quality), this is a good deal.

Both of these options don’t come with charging cases that can be turned into speakers. This is a difficult decision, but it’s necessary to want wireless headphones that won’t ruin your favorite music.

This is an excellent attempt by iLive to combine two tech brands. However, poor Bluetooth performance makes it impossible to recommend them.
