The entry-level Klipsch Reference RSB-3 sound bar is part of the Reference RSB series. It’s also one of our most affordable soundbars under 300. There are no external satellites or subwoofer–everything you need, aside from the remote and cables, is contained within the bar itself.

The 2.5-inch oval subwoofer means integrated into the RSB-3 means that it doesn’t need a large ugly box to be placed on your floor. You get full-range audio from one device because the woofer is integrated into the sound bar: no extra boxes, no extra wires.

The Reference RSB-3 is equipped with the typical array of analog and digital audio inputs and the ability to stream audio via Bluetooth. It delivers clear, crisp audio but will not please bass-lovers who want to hear integrated subwoofer-like rumble while watching movies.

The Reference RSB-3 measures 2.6 by 36.0 inches by 4.0 inches (HWD) and weighs 7 pounds. It is pretty typical in its design—the speaker’s long frame projects audio through metallic grilles at the top and front. Side ports allow air escape to more efficient driver movement.

This soundbar can be mounted on any wall or tabletop. The newest flat-panel televisions are great for video. However, the Klipsch speakers inside of them become smaller as they age. Klipsch soundbars will make your new Television sound just as great as it looks.

The Reference RSB-3’s internal design features dual 0.75-inch tweeters with 2.5-inch woofers. This creates authentic stereo sound and 56 watts of total power.

The speaker comes with rubber feet that can hold it in place on flat surfaces. However, the speaker can also mount a Klipsch template to the wall mounting. This will help you drill the screws into the right spots on your wall to fit the keyhole in the back panel.

The rear panel houses connections volume, Bluetooth pairing, and sound source. There is also a screen with LEDs that show Dolby Digital (which automatically lights up when it receives a digital Dolby signal), Virtual Surround sound mode, and Dialogue modes. To provide a powerful cinematic experience, the Dolby Audio(r), Decoder formats all Dolby content.

The RSB-3 virtual surround mode gives you an incredible home theater experience without the need to add additional speakers. This is the easiest way to convert your TV into an incredible home theater system and still get the Klipsch quality sound.

The rear panel contains connections for the included power cable and optical cable, an HDMI (no cable included), an optical input (an optical wire is included), and a 3,5mm jack that can either be used for headphones or analog outputs (using either a 3.5mm-to RCA cable or a cable that connects to a 3.5mm-to RCA cable, neither of these is included).

Klipsch Reference 3 inline Remote Control. It is small, lightweight, and made of plastic. It included remote control that can be used to turn on remote sofas for snacks.

It has power control, Bluetooth, and a switch between digital and analog sound sources. An LED button turns on and off the soundbar’s LEDs.

You will also find buttons for volume up/down, mute, and volume down (these can be used independently of the overall sound source), Dialogue (which increases frequencies that make it easier to recognize speech), and Surround sound. The soundbar can be programmed to work with your universal remote, and you can get rid of the small plastic one that it comes with.

The EQ mode is missing, which would have been great. It’s easy to accidentally blast the overall sound by not having an optical indicator of the volume level.

It is easy and quick to connect via Bluetooth. After holding down the Bluetooth button on our remote, we joined the iPhone 6s successfully. After pairing, switching to an analog or digital sound source on your remote will kill the connection. Reboot the Bluetooth button to restore it.

The Reference RSB-3 is an excellent test vehicle for the Pacific Rim Bluray’s Chapter 13. There are lots of robot stomping sounds and explosions. The audio quality performance in these loud and dynamic moments was impressive, considering the obtainable price.

Although there isn’t a separate subwoofer-like sound, the audio doesn’t sound cheesy, sluggish, and the blasts have a lot of heft. Virtual surround buttons have the most significant effect on audio.

Klipsch will not fool anyone into believing you have speakers behind, but it does provide a wider stereo image. The Reference RSB-3 sounds almost like a mono speaker when the effect is off. However, it does give the audio a wider, more spacious sound without any noticeable reverb or echoes.

We found Chapter 3 of Casino Royale Bluray to blast and gunshots as expected. However, anyone looking for the thunderous thuds and thunder an integrated subwoofer can produce will be disappointed.

When switching to Bluetooth music, for tracks with sub-bass content like Silent Shout by The Knife, the Reference RSB-3 attempts to produce a tangible bass thump but is relatively weak in this department. We experienced distortion problems with the deep bass at high volumes, either on the iPhone 6s or the tv built-in speakers.

This is a common problem with speakers without powerful woofers. However, most sound bars use digital signal processing to avoid these pitfalls.

Bill Callahan’s track Drover has a lower level of bass, which gives us a better idea of the Reference RSB-3 sound signature. The drums can be loud and imposing on bass-forward speakers, but they are more manageable here. Callahan’s baritone voice seems to have the most incredible power and strength in the lows and mid-mids.

The high-mids, as well as highs, sound crisp and clear. This bright delivery has some richness in lows and mid-mids but not much in deep lows. Jay-Z and Kanye’s No Church in the Wild sub-bass synth hits sounds relatively tame, while the drum loop has a solid high-mid presence.

The orchestral tracks like the opening scene of John Adams’ The Gospel According To The Other Mary have a crisp sound. The higher register brass, strings, and vocals are upfront, while the lower register instruments deliver a subtle but not overly boosted presence.

Sound Quality

The sound quality is better. Soundbars also produce thunder sounds in many cases.

However, those who prefer higher bass may be disappointed by the low sounds. For excellent sound delivery, you can switch to Bluetooth music streaming.

A little distortion was evident in the deep bass audio.

These are soundbars with typical features that do not have sub-woofers. These pitfalls are eliminated by most soundbars that use digital signal processing.

The high mids, highs, and highs are crisp and clearly defined. This is usually due to the bright soundbars.

You will get rich sound quality, as well as sweet lows and mids.

It takes complete concentration to achieve the perfect sound delivery. It delivers clear audio from all Klipsch soundbars.
