Design and Remotes

The speaker is a rectangular, black block measuring 6.8 by 4.0 by 4.0 inches (HWD) and similar in size to the Sonos One. The sides and front are covered with grille cloth. The top and back panels feature a matte black rubber finish.

Design and Remotes

They are identical with the same back panels. The panels have power connectors, power LEDs, and pair and reset buttons. There are also screw mounts that can be used to mount the speakers to stands or walls.

There is no distinction between the left and right speakers. A dual-channel class is assigned to them when they are connected with your TV.

Two remote controls are included with Roku TV speaker. The Roku Voice Remote is a basic Bluetooth remote that can control Roku TVs, Roku Premiere+, and Roku Streaming Stick.

The small is a short, black wand that features a prominent purple direction pad, tv menu, and music playback control buttons, as well as dedicated buttons for Hulu and Netflix, Sling TV, and Roku Channel.

A pinhole microphone is located near the top of the Roku tv remote for voice search. Volume up/down, mute, and volume up/down buttons are also available on the right side.

The Roku Voice Remote can control your Roku TV using a regular Roku IR remote, such as the TCL 55P605 that we tested. You’ll also have another Roku Voice Remote if your Roku TV has one.

The second remote is slightly different and was made specifically for the speakers. The Roku TV Touch remote measures 2.3 inches and is designed to be placed on a table.

The remote features a prominent voice command button, volume controls, and a set of volume controls. Three buttons surround it for voice commands above them, two of which can save voice commands to presets so that you can use them without speaking and one reserved for a feature yet to be activated), and three playback buttons below.

It also has a pinhole microphone and an integrated speaker that can respond directly to your questions. The remote does not have a mute button, which is a curious feature.

The primary remote controls come with microphones built-in so that they can support all voice commands and voice searches. Roku Assistant isn’t yet a fully-fledged voice assistant, like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

However, it provides a way to search for media and control your TV. Roku Assistant allows you to use your voice search to find movies and TV shows on Roku TV.

You can also manage TV settings such as volume and inputs and open individual apps. You won’t find any more assistant-like functions here. Roku Assistant can’t be asked for general information, calendar information, or control of your smart home Roku devices.

Simple Setup of Stereo Speakers

The Roku TV Wireless Speakers, unlike almost all other TV speaker systems, are a stereo separation pair. Each unit is roughly the same size as a Sonos One, measuring 6 inches in height. When you pair the teams, they are automatically paired from the box.

The speaker’s voice assistant will guide you through the setup process. There is no need to install an application. The only wires that you will need to be concerned about are the power cords for each unit. You can play any audio that comes in via HDMI or streaming from your Roku device.

These Roku tv speakers are connected to the TV via Bluetooth. Although the Roku wireless speakers do have a sync button for connecting to your phone, it is not used to set up Bluetooth.

You will need to go to the Bluetooth section on the TV’s menu to set up Bluetooth. Bluetooth’s simplicity makes it appealing, but you will need to use the remote control on your TV to set it up. Instead, use Spotify Connect through the Spotify app.

Although there is no way to add rears or subs, Roku Connect could make this possible in the future.

How Do They Sound?

Roku TV Wireless surround system is a great performer. It can also play music better than you would expect from a set designed to be used with a budget TV.

It made my feet tap harder than my Yamaha YAS108, which is my favorite all-in-one bar. The Rokuwireless speakers produce a beautifully open surround sound that is hard to match with Yamaha’s boxy Yamaha. This was no doubt due to the Roku’s discrete left and proper channels.

The Roku tv Speakers were great for listening to music. I found straightforward rock or folk songs to be the best. They have a punchy surround sound and better stereo separation than best soundbar under $500.

The Yamaha, on the other hand, sounded smaller and had less flair. Vocals and, by extension, dialog sounded great and crisp. The cracks began to appear when the Roku wireless speakers were introduced to more complex tracks and those with deep bass.

Roku wireless speakers have a limiter that cuts off excessive bass response. I was able to hear it clearly during the final song of Life by The Beta Band.

The Roku wireless speakers performed the descending bass line much better than any other tests, but the volume increased in the quieter sections after the bass stopped.

However, that test consisted of many individual notes and instruments with bass transients, such as a bass drum that could make my Roku rattle like a snare.

This was especially evident when watching movies with profound sound effects, including superhero movies. Low-frequency information can become smeared or rattled, making it surround sound like a rainmaker. It wasn’t for this effect that Yamaha’s generally muted audio performance stood out.

Saving Private Ryan was 4K. The opening scenes of the bloodshed at Omaha Beach felt stale. Explosions were more muffled than explosive, and the ricochets seemed less deadly than they were.

The sound was lacking in emotional weight. At the 10 minute mark, Tom Hanks looks at the scene and notices that the Roku speakers are rumbling like a train carriage window pane.

In this scene, the Yamaha pulled ahead of the Roku. Although the sound was lacking in bass, it did its best to portray the danger faced by soldiers.

The speaker had a realistic sound effect, and the gunshots were very real. The tiny speakers rattled at the same level as the Roku, but it was not as noticeable.

The Omaha landing was possible only after switching from the Yamaha to the $150 Vizio SB3621N -E8. Although it did not have the same dynamics or zing as the Yamaha, the Vizio made explosions sound like they were. The Vizio clarified that the famous sequence was supposed to simulate ringing in your ears, not rattling carriages.

Who should get the Roku TV Wireless Speakers

Who should get the Roku TV Wireless Speakers?

These speakers are better than a smart soundbar for a Roku TV if you want to enjoy movies, TV shows, and music. These Roku speakers offer better sound and are easier to set up.

The Roku TV Wireless Speakers are excellent for secondary rooms like bedrooms, dens, and kids’ rooms. They’re easy to use but offer a significant improvement over internal TV speakers.

If you are talking about your main home theater and want the best sound quality, I may recommend a soundbar system with a center channel, subwoofer, and other performances.

These Roku speakers are not recommended if you plan to replace your Roku TV within the following year. They tie you to Roku TV and won’t be much use other than that.

The Roku TV Wireless speakers work just like Roku’s TVs or Roku streamers. They are easy to set up and can be used by anyone in just a few moments. This is how I expect all TV speakers and soundbars to work in the future.

However, I prefer that they are not tied to any particular brand. The Roku TV Wireless speakers preview what’s to come and offer great value and an excellent user experience.
