  • Poor surroundings and poor height performances

Samsung HW Q900T Soundbar Reviews

The Samsung HW Q900T soundbar is the Korean company’s step-down soundbar to the HWQ950T. It retains the same design but drops the rear speakers.

Although the Samsung HW Q900T soundbar is less expensive, the Samsung HW Q900T has a lower price tag. However, the Samsung HW Q900T lacks the immersiveness of the Q950T’s rear speakers. It’s still a tremendous sounding bar.

Samsung HW Q900T Design – Premium Design And Build, but Odd Display Placement

  • Amazing looks
  • Similar bar/sub to Q950T
  • Display placements that are not standard

The HW-Q900 T’s top bar and subwoofer are identical to the HWQ950T. It measures 69.5 x 1232x 138mm (HWD), weighs 7.1 kg and 9.8kg, respectively, and comes wrapped in the same Kvadrat fabric.

It still occupies a lot of space and needs 7cm clearance to sit underneath a TV. The brackets needed for wall-mounting are included in the package. You will need to leave enough space around the edges for the dedicated surround speakers to operate correctly. The Samsung HW Q900T is more suitable for smaller rooms because it doesn’t include rear speakers.

It is similar to the Q950T, which means Samsung’s design choices with the premium bar are still present. Two displays are available on the Samsung HW Q900T, but neither is particularly useful. The Q900T’s front-facing collection displays power and volume.

The conventional display at the top shows input and audio. You will need to get out of your couch to ensure the HW-Q900T plays the correct audio track and adjust the speaker levels. It’s a curious decision.

The unit has a multi-function button that can input/power/Alexa, volume controls, and an on/off switch to turn off the microphone for privacy. The remote is one of the most valuable and convenient tools. The speaker settings button allows you to adjust the volume and bass of the speaker, as well as the treble and bass to best suit your room. You will need to get up from your chair to view the levels.

Samsung HW-Q900T Price And Availability

The Samsung HW-Q900T has the same main bar and sub as the Q950T. However, it lacks the back speakers for a more tranquil 7.1.2 layout. The Samsung HW Q900T will be available in 2020 for £1099 / $1299 / €1049 / CAD$1699 / AUD$1549.

Style & Design

Samsung has picked the year 2020 to finally revamp the design of its high-end sound bars, which had not changed since 2017. Exit the previous years’ extremely raw industrial aspect of stripping; the Q900main T’s bar is covered in an acoustic fabric produced by Danish expert Kvadrat, giving it a substantially more attractive appearance.

This fabric also benefits from being completely matt, which prevents the picture from reflecting on the bar when it is placed directly in front of a television.

Despite this, it may be required to elevate the television slightly so that the bar does not cover the bottom of the display. Its 7 cm thickness is more than the gap left between the screen and the cabinet on most modern televisions. It has a width of 1.23 m, comparable to a 55-inch screen.

Two HDMI inputs, an optical S/PDIF input, and an HDMI output compatible with the audio return channel make up the connection. The latter uses the eARC standard and can carry Dolby Atmos and DTS: X signals, assuming you also have a compatible TV. Please keep in mind that the video stream may only be sent between the HDMI inputs and outputs using the standards of the HDMI 2.0 standard.

Suppose you want to use this soundbar with a PS5 or Xbox Series X / S game console and an HDMI 2.1 television. You must connect the console directly to the television to benefit from the Ultra HD definition at 120 Hz and the Variable Refresh Rate and use the eARC channel for audio signal transmission to the bar.

The bar can decode audio signals in LPCM format up to 7.1 on all of its HDMI interfaces and all Dolby Atmos and DTS codecs, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Of course, optical input is restricted to stereo LPCM or vintage Dolby Digital and DTS.

Finally, the bar has a Bluetooth receiver for connecting a mobile device and a Wi-Fi interface for the minimal network services it offers.

The Q900T comes with a simple and effective infrared remote control. The major controls are also accessible through a few mechanical buttons on the bar’s top face. Here, we discover the display, which is rather rickety, making access to the bar settings excessively difficult. Fortunately, some of these options may also be accessed through the Samsung SmartThings mobile app.

Quality of finish

For the Samsung HW Q900T, Samsung chose a fabric finish. This cloth, selected for its acoustic qualities, is high quality and should not wrinkle over time.

On the other hand, the subwoofer has an ordinary finish quality that is comparable to most soundbars on the market. It is plated in medium quality. At this point, Bose and Sonos remain well ahead.

The HW-Q900T sound bar has a total output of 406 watts for its 16 speakers and is a 7.1.2 channel device. The HW-Q900T supports 3D Dolby Atmos and DTS: X encodings. It has clever settings that may tailor the sound mode to the kind of material being viewed. They, of course, include wireless Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. We would have preferred that they be AirPlay 2 compatible, as is the Samsung TVs of 2020.

Samsung HW Q900T Features

  • No room calibration feature
  • A variety of audio formats are supported
  • Built-in Alexa voice assistance/Spotify Connect

You can set up the Samsung HW-Q900T in SmartThings. It will allow you to adjust the EQ and woofer levels. However, these settings are not as extensive as those available with your remote.

SmartThings integrates intelligent devices and appliances within your home (Philips Hue and Ring) and allows you to use them in the app. However, the bar does not support room equalization technology like Sonos’ Trueplay.

The total amplification of the soundbar is 406W. This is more than Samsung’s next soundbar, the HW-Q800T (330W). There are two full-range, up-firing, side-firing, high-quality speakers in the main bar. The center also has a dedicated center and a wide-range tweeter. Samsung believes that more speakers are better.

Samsung HWQ900T Features Q-Symphony Support Adds An Extra Dimension To TV Watching

Audio formats include Dolby Atmos, DTS:X (via Dolby Master Audio and DTS TrueHD), and legacy support for DTS and Dolby Digital. AAC, MP3, OGG, and WAV are all supported for music playback. The optical input is of course limited to stereo LPCM or classic Dolby Digital and DTS.

Connections permit plugging in multiple sources via two HDMI inputs, more than the HWQ800T’s single input. The HDMI output supports Atmos and other audio formats, while the soundbar can receive 4K HDR10+ signals.

One optical information is sufficient for physical connections. This eliminates the need to use the USB port for service updates. They can be found in the recessed area of the speaker’s bottom.

HDMI handshake issues occurred. The soundbar would revert to Wi-Fi, and sometimes there was a slight delay. To resolve handshake problems, you can connect sources to the soundbar’s HDMI inputs.

Additional features include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (SBC codec), built-in Alexa, and Spotify Connect integration. You can tap your Samsung Galaxy smartphone on the main bar to send audio straight to the sound bar.

There are four sound modes: Standard, Surround speakers, and Game Pro. Standard has a larger sound field than surround and height channels, while the Adaptive Sound setting analyzes audio in real-time and optimizes according to the content.

Q-Symphony is new for 2020. You will need a Q-Series compatible Q-Series TV and QLED TV speakers with OTS (Object Tracking sound) to sample it. The soundbar and TV are synchronized to create giant sound customization that can track objects moving across the screen.

The Q900T has an interesting adaptive sound character for a home theater appliance. In contrast to some of its contemporaries’ artificially inflated and “doped” sounds, Samsung’s soundbar depends on a certain level of knowledge, even calm.

This is how we might understand the very modest inverted V frequency response at the two extremities of the spectrum, which allows the mids to take center stage. Rather than focusing on the spectacular, the HW-Q900T emphasizes the initial harmonics of mid-range sounds (particularly human voices) and the purity and transparency of the reflect sound message. On the other hand, this might create the impression of a relatively flat sound at first appearance.

However, it is only a question of getting used to it: after a few listenings, the impression fades as our ears get used to this spectral profile. Because, for the most part, the bar’s sound reproduction remains extraordinarily rich, abundant, and, most all, dynamic.

It has become the signature of Samsung’s high-end soundbars, and the Q900T proudly continues this tradition: it has a massive reserve of power and explosiveness, the interest of which is not only to make the living room walls shake when you turn the volume up – which it does with alarming ease for amateurs.

Even at acceptable listening volumes, this enables it to recreate sound signal transients with astonishing rapidity and transcribe the tiniest details of the soundtrack and explosions and other gunfire with limitless vitality. We’re not complaining: at the time of writing. It’s still the greatest subwoofer with a sound bar, capable of producing bass with incredible depth and responsiveness while minimizing resonance.

The Q900T likewise provides outstanding services on the virtual spatialization front, but only under certain situations. For the first time in this model, Samsung employs sound projection methods that include the reflection of immersive sound waves from the walls and ceiling of the listening space and acoustic phase adaptation techniques.

To be more specific, the front, side, and height channels are replicated not by a single loudspeaker devoted to each but by all of the bar’s loudspeakers working together to provide an even more powerful directional effect by sending signals slightly out of phase with each other to others.

Surprisingly, this is not the case with the rear channels, each with a single side speaker. Can a perfectly cohesive surrounding scene be created despite this disparity? Contrary to popular belief, the answer is true… on the explicit condition that the bar is situated in a room with exactly appropriate acoustic features – namely, a rectangular room with the television set equidistant from the side walls. Without it, the connection between the side and rear tracks may fail.

If this requirement is satisfied, the outcome is very persuasive. The frontal picture goes well beyond the actual limits of the bar, the separation between the side and backtracks is palpable, and the increase in the pitch of voices is audible.

The resulting wide and focused soundstage is not the most enveloping we’ve heard from a soundbar – Sennheiser’s massive Ambeo Soundbar remains unrivaled in this regard – but it acquires a true spatial breadth. The three-dimensionality is there, and it provides all of the expected auditory immersion.

Surround effects

The HW-Q900T is capable of reproducing 3D Dolby Atmos sound. The HW-Q900T has seven speakers, each of which can be operated separately to generate Atmos sound effects. When viewing a movie or TV show, sound effects may be heard around the soundbar and TV. We resemble a home theater set. The conversation is also represented with a high level of clarity and depth. A film’s sound effects ever muffle nothing. However, LG’s SN11 soundbar achieves these similar effects much better.

Samsung HW-Q900T has very versatile performances

  • Q-Symphony is compatible with compatible Samsung TV
  • Large and spacious soundstage
  • It’s also great with music

Although the HWQ900T’s performance is affected by the loss of the rear height channels, it still delivers a fantastic sounding experience.

Its sound is impressive in its size and weight. Blade Runner (Atmos), the opening scene, demonstrates thunderous bass integration. The primary bar blasts sound into the room with significant impact. The only difference is that spinners don’t fly toward you like they would with rear speakers. The result is still impressive.

Height effects can be handled with nuance, as demonstrated by American Gangster (DTSX:X). They increase both the width of scenes and their height. The viewer can feel the hustle and bustle of a busy street market in Bangkok when Denzel Washington’s Frank Lucas arrives.

Samsung HW-Q900T Performance – It Lacks The Presence Of Rear Speakers, But Still Sounds Great

The soundbar creates the impression of a train passing by during stakeouts in the same film. Anakin’s “war cry,” which he uses to try and win the upper hand over Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith (Atmos), can be heard from above.

This dedicated center channel allows for crystal-clear dialogue delivery, and voices are raised to correspond with their screen position. The overall clarity of the video is exceptional. American Gangster’s score, dialogue, and effects clearly distinguish a multilayered mix. Tonally, the speaker is very natural in his delivery.

Q-Symphony works well – provided you have the necessary equipment. Parasite (5.1) is shown on Prime Video. Offscreen dialogue can be pushed to the side to make scenes feel larger. Vehicles can also be tracked offscreen to follow through a set. Q-Symphony can be very effective if it has the right content.

The HW-Q900T can get plenty of detail from The Americans (5.1, Prime Video). This soundbar can generate a lot of power, but there’s still nuance. The quiet scenes are handled to make the tense scenes seem even more intense.

It is also imposing musically. La La Land’s Another Day of Sun (Atmos) sounds great with clear voices. Samsung’s energetic, entertaining and musical sound makes the scene more lively. The Samsung HW-Q900T is just like the best soundbar on Amazone in 2022. It’s a crowd-pleaser.

Ease Of Use

HDMI ARC cables are the best choice for connecting to compatible TVs. You can turn the TV on and off and control the adaptive sound with the same remote. These devices can be connected to a Samsung TV via Wi-Fi. No cables are required. If you do not want to use the optical cable connection, you should.

This configuration requires that the soundbar remote control be used. It’s straightforward to use and does not have any unnecessary buttons.

These bars are compatible with the Amazon Alexa voice assistant, and they are part of Samsung’s SmartThings home automation ecosystem.

You Should Purchase The Samsung HWQ950T If…

You want your films to come to life.

The HW-Q900T, like the HW-905T, is an articulate performer that can handle a wide range of content.

There isn’t enough space to install the rear speakers of the Q950T.

The soundbar loses the immersiveness of the premium Samsung 2020 Q-series soundbar, but the front-heavy delivery is likely to work better in smaller rooms with more difficult rear speakers.

You Should Purchase The Samsung HWQ950T If...

There are many sources you can plugin.

Three HDMI inputs allow you to plug in a variety of sources. However, we experienced some HDMI handshake issues…

The Samsung HW-Q950T Should Not Be Purchased If…

You can’t stretch your budget that far.

A soundbar that costs close to PS1000 is quite expensive. Samsung Electronics America also offers the HW-Q800T soundbar. The sound enhancement features are identical, but with one less HDMI input and three fewer channels (3.1.2). It is PS400 less expensive.

Our Opinion. The Samsung HW-Q80R is a better soundbar on its own than the Bose Smart Soundbar 700, while the Bose can be easily upgraded to the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 with satellite speakers + Bass Module. The Samsung boasts a separate subwoofer, more prolonged bass, and a louder peak volume.

How many speakers does the Samsung Q900T soundbar have?

16 speakers

Because a 55-inch TV has an initial dimension of roughly 47.8 inches, you should have a soundbar that is 40 to 50 inches in size. It is fine to have a soundbar a few inches bigger or smaller. However, for the optimum sound quality, the soundbar should at least cover the bottom of the TV.

It has some decent sound for a soundbar in its price range. The soundbar is pretty straightforward. Samsung has done a great job of making this as user-friendly as possible.

On the other hand, it does have some issues that might be frustrating. From that, you can see that Samsung has done a great job at delivering a soundbar that delivers on its promise.
