Features and Build Quality
These headphones are heavy and bulky. You can also get the Hesh 2 Wireless in several colors if you don’t want the wired headphone version’s massive library.
This version has metallic highlights and is black. Another standard finish is a white frame with gold highlights and brown pads. Beats-adjacent flavor.
These headphones are made of all-plastic. Even the leather is plastic, as with all affordable headphones. These large faux leather pads are available.
Although they look like true head-huggers, they are pretty comfortable. The ear pads shape is nearly perfect, so parts of the pads can rest on your ears instead of around them. This is not ideal.
The Skullcandy Hesh 2 Wireless becomes less comfortable when you add some pressure to the headband and pad that isn’t as firm as others.
The Hesh 2 Wireless’s Bluetooth wireless connectivity is the real star. It is half the price range of full-size, wired headphones.
Wireless performance has been mixed. It can work flawlessly in areas with minimal wireless interference. On the other hand, it can be a bit temperamental in an office with lots of techs. They are still more reliable than other headphones.
You can use the included cable to connect your Hesh pair wired if you run out or notice that Bluetooth is not working.
SkullCandy Hesh 2 wireless headsets are a pretty comfortable design. The ear cups are well-padded and don’t feel heavy or too tight once they are on your head. The headband isn’t padded, and the ear cup is an odd size.
It is between an over-model and an on-ear model but doesn’t rest on your ears or cover them adequately. This can cause discomfort during long listening sessions, especially for listeners with more prominent ears.
Although the buttons on the Hesh 2 Bluetooth headphones are functional and efficient, they can take some time to get used to. They can be used for high volumes control, track skipping, and call/music.
Multiple functions can often be relegated at the same multifunction button, which can make it confusing. It is also disappointing that the buttons don’t provide good tactile feedback.
Skullcandy Hesh 2 headphones are moderately stable. These headphones are comfortable for casual listening. The wireless design prevents them from being pulled off your head by the audio cable. They are not made for running and jumping, so they can slip from your ears.
Although they are small in size, the Skullcandy Hesh 2 Wireless headphones are very portable. They can’t be folded to decrease the amount of space they take up in a purse or bag.
Ear cup doesn’t rotate or lie flat. The upside is that the earpads aren’t too large, so they have a smaller footprint than other over-ear models.
Performance and Sound Quality
The Skullcandy Hesh 2 Wireless delivers deep lows on tracks with strong sub-bass content like “Silent Shout” by The Knife. The sound signature might be lacking for bass fiends, but the headphones provide a clear bass response that is neither too thin nor overly boosted. Although there is some depth, the headphones are not too loud.
Bill Callahan’s “Drover,” a track with less in the way of booming bass, sounds crisp and complete through the Hesh 2 Wireless. This track’s drums have a low-frequency presence that gives them a bit more heft. Callahan’s baritone vocals have a rich low-mid company, and thankfully, enough high-mid and treble edge to keep it clear and concise.
Although the mix is not muddy, it can sometimes feel a little too loud in the low-mids. The high-mids and highs sound very well sculpted. It doesn’t sound bad, but it isn’t the kind of sound signature that audiophiles want.
Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild” kick drum loop seems to confirm the previous track’s sound: the low-mids give the beat a powerful sustain, but the attack sounds duller, almost as if the high-mids were boosted in higher frequencies.
It’s not bad, but it does sound very well crafted. Sub-bass synth hits at the end of the loop aren’t as punchy as headphones with a heavily boosted bass. Therefore, we can conclude that most of the Hesh 2 Wireless’s growth is in the low-mids or lows and less in the sub-bass realm.
The Jabra Move Wireless, Sennheiser MMM 100, and Sony MDRZX770BT ($149.95 each at Amazon) offer solid audio with different bass/treble balance levels.
The Creative Sound Blaster Jam (at Amazon) is a great Bluetooth headphone pair that provides a high-quality audio spectrum at a low price. The stylish Skullcandy Hesh 2 Wireless is $100.
It has a detachable cable and an inline remote that adds significant value. And the design is simple and easy. The headphones’ audio performance is not for bass fiends or purists, but they deliver high-quality low-end, and clear highs for the price.
The battery life of the Skullcandy 2 Bluetooth headphones is good. Although they take a bit longer to charge, they can still play audio. These headphones are fabulous for travel, especially if you have a lot of power outlets. They don’t have any power-saving features, and they will drain your battery even when you aren’t using them.
The long battery life is excellent. The battery life is good at 15 hours. Your phone or tablet should have a battery indicator to know how much juice you still have.
We tested the headphones with both an iPhone 5S (and a Samsung Galaxy S5). With full-size Bluetooth headphones, you can get a bit more battery life, but it’s still solid at 15 hours.
Skullcandy Hesh 2 wireless comes with a 1/8TRS standard audio cable and an in-line microphone. This microphone works with the Xbox One and PS4 controllers, but you may need an adapter and mic for your desktop.
Active Noise Cancellation
Noise isolation performance is poor. Both Hesh 3 wireless, Skullcandy crusher wireless, and Hesh 2 don’t have active noise cancellation and are passively isolated. They don’t isolate in the bass range, which is essential for blocking the rumble from bus and airplane engines.
They achieved 6dB noise cancelling in the mid-range, which is necessary for cutting out speech. They reach 24dB of isolation in the treble range, occupied by short S- and T sounds. This is well above average.
“Fantastic sound, a good battery life, and great design with the Hesh 2. Skullcandy Hesh 2 is so comfortable I forget it’s on my head. It is one of the very best wireless headphones for tv or listen to music at home“
“Great sounding and wireless range these headphones were just as advertised and a beautiful piece of kit, and at a good price too. “
“The Hesh 2 wireless headphone comes with very simple nylon carrying pouch and a cord, it has a pretty good sound, I often use it to watching movies. On the right ear, It also includes a button for power, ear volume control, turning ANC on and off, and even pairing.”
“Received this Skullcandy Hesh 2 Wireless Headphones in the pretty good box. They come in very nicely boxed with the charging cable, both earbuds, and the user manual. It gives you decent sound, a good battery, and functions without issue, the ear cups are designed very comfortably.
There are few things to note: The earpad is lovely and adjustable, even with the earbuds installed. They are not noise-canceling headphones, It cannot block ambient noise, though they do come with a wire cover to help reduce outside sound while you listen.”
The Hesh 2 wireless headphone is lightweight, stylish, and comfortable headphones. A perfect headphone for the everyday listener looking for some quality sound.
It comes with a friendly and clean design and sound that gives you the feeling of listening to studio quality. Battery life can be considered short, but it is at least charges quickly and easily.
