I am experiencing dropouts in my bluetooth recordings, what can I do to fix?

  1. Power cycle your phone if you haven’t in the last 72 hours.
  2. Ensure that you don’t have several apps running in the background during record. The Hooke 3D Audio app takes a ton of processing power to transmit, receive and package 3D audio from the Hooke Verse. Any apps taking up precious power in the background can affect the quality of your recording.
  3. Turn your phone to Airplane mode and leave only Bluetooth on. We have found some Android devices to have bluetooth chips incredibly close to the antennae used for calling. Airplane mode can help rid the device of any wireless interference.
  4. Make sure you don’t have a lot of bluetooth devices previously stored on your phone. A large amount of “remembered” devices can affect the performance.

REMEMBER: You can always reset your Hooke Verse by pressing the reset button, located in a small hole on the right behind the ear enclosure.

ALSO NOTE: In areas where there is a high amount of bluetooth devices in your immediate vicinity, your performance may be affected. We recommend turning on airplane mode at conventions, concerts and on busy city streets.

Can I use Hooke Verse with other apps besides the Hooke Audio app?

We have developed a custom Bluetooth recording codec to allow Hooke Verse to capture wireless 3d audio to a smartphone. In order for this to work, our mobile app does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to receiving the wireless 3d audio codec. In order for a third party app to support Hooke Verse, they would need to support our wireless 3d audio recording codec.

However, there is a way to use Hooke Verse on 3rd party apps using the Hooke recording cable. Many adapters allow you to convert your Micro USB or Lightning port into a 3.5mm stereo input. Plug one of these adapters into your phone, then plug the Hooke recording cable into the adapter. The adapter will override your built in mic and allow you to use the Hooke Verse on that app via a wired connection.

What is the sample rate and bit depth of Hooke Audio recordings?

Hooke Verse does record in 24bit 48kHz. However, the packing and transmitting of this audio is unlike any other microphone on the market. Never has a microphone sent multiple channels of high quality audio over bluetooth to a smartphone before. The analog microphones at the Verse pick up omni directional 24bit 48kHz audio. This audio is then digitally sparked into bits which are sent over Bluetooth to the phone for unpacking.

It is very precise how many bits are sent and at what frequency so as to ensure optimum performance and risk bluetooth packet loss. The app then receives the bit and unpacks them into a desired file format. Though the resulting file is an m4a, it is not the m4a in which you are normally accustomed to as it has been sent via bluetooth bit transfer from a 24bit 48kHz microphone. Regardless, we plan to roll out .wav packaging and .aac packaging in further updates.
